EndSARS: Meet the Hijab Wearing Revolutionary Woman Calling for the End of Police Brutality
The picture of a hijab-wearing woman protesting the call to an end to the Special Anti-robbery Squad ( SARS) is now trending on the social media in Nigeria. The picture shows her in a beautiful flowing hijab with one of her fist up. Calling for the end of SARS and the police brutality.
The woman behind the hijab is a female freedom fighter known as Aisha Yusuf. Aisha was born and grew up in Kano state but she is an indigene of Edo state who strongly believes in freedom of the mind and against the belief that women should be silent. She was also actively involved in the bring back our girl protest in the Chibok girl's abduction protest In front of the National Assembly on April 14, 2014, at Abuja.
She also believes that women should be allowed to speak their minds and stand up against oppression. In her famous philosophy about mortality that she once shared with the Guardian she said " when I was 10 years old, I realized that the worst thing any human being can do to me is to kill me"
Her voice and that of thousands of Nigerian youths across the nation is that the SARS should be disbanded because they have left their primary assignment of fighting armed robbery to harassing and assaulting innocent youth. They have been alleged of collecting money from their victims. The news reaching us today from the force headquarters is that the Inspector General of police has heard the call of Aisha Yusuf and the Nigerian youths and the SARS units of the Nigerian police have finally been disbanded.
