VAR Stops Working Because Stadium Worker Unplugs Device To Charge Phone Instead

VAR stopped working during a Saudi league match because a stadium worker unplugged one of the elements of the television replay to charge his phone.

A match between Al-Nassr and Al-Fateh has been marred in controversy after VAR had technical issues due to a bizarre blunder.

One of the workers at the ground unplugged the VAR device to charge his phone instead.

Al-Nassr went onto win the league clash thanks to a 49th minute goal from Firas Al-Buraikan.

Arab football isn't the only terriencing problems with VAR.

A referee in Bolivia caused outrage after awarding a late penalty through VAR despite the Bolivian Primera Division not using the technology.

Club Always Ready were trailing 1-0 deep into injury time, but footage emerged of referee Raul Orosco talking with the fourth official and someone speaking to him in his earpiece before making a controversial decision.

The referee signalled for the use of VAR, only to quickly realise that the league doesn't use it and proceeded to point to the spot.

The match descended into chaos as the Bolivar players were visibly upset with the decision and riot police could be spotted trying to contain the situation on the pitch.

This is incredible. In added time in Bolivia, referee goes to sidelines to make decision to award Always Ready against Bolívar. Signals decision to award penalty using VAR signal. The Bolivian league doesn't have VAR technology. The penalty was not scored.

Opinion is still divided in England of the use of VAR. Critics and fans alike aren't convinced, but ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho likes the "essence of VAR".

"Of course, as a manager sometimes you receive a favourable decision and sometimes a disastrous one," he said.

"I like the essence of VAR to reduce human error and we will all learn it and adapt to it, but I hope we will still maintain the raw excitement.

"Before, when a goal went in, I used to look at the referee, now I look at the screen!"
